Ben Powers Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: Ben Powers wins off the line of scrimmage…his hand placement is spot on…he works well in controlling defenders right off of the line of scrimmage…Powers plays with proper leverage while pass blocking and ultimately can guide defenders away from the pocket…a very touch, nasty offensive guard…

WEAKNESSES: Ben Powers lacks the athleticism to handle quicker, longer athletes…where others in this class strive to get to the second level—Powers struggles with this, likely due to his less athletic profile and quickness…his footwork can get a bit choppy and that allows him to get beaten by counter moves…a little stiff, not as fluid as you would like to see…

COMP: Dion Dawkins

OVERALL: The issues with Ben Powers is that he profiles as a good, not great offensive guard, who struggles with high end athletes with length…unfortunately, this will be what Ben Powers runs into on a consistent basis at the NFL level…Ben Powers is not the high-impact athlete…his weaknesses on tape are glaring and will need a lot of refinement in order to develop into a reliable starter…not the prospect that some of his fellow Oklahoma Sooner offensive lineman are, I would expect Ben Powers to be selected early on Day Three, around the 4th-5th round range in the 2019 NFL Draft.
