D.K. Metcalf Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: D.K. Metcalf is the most physically gifted WR in the 2019 NFL Draft class…you don’t find many human beings that can move the way that Metcalf can, at his size…legit #1 WR type of potential and upside…runs good routes—explosive in and out of his breaks…can elevate like few others can—and catches the ball at the highest point…has rare after the catch ability—is a nightmare for defenses to tackle…a legit deep ball threat who can take the top off of a defense…

WEAKNESSES: The injury to his neck, and how he checks out in the medicals will be paramount to the draft stock of D.K. Metcalf…he has a startling lack of production for a player held in such high regard…his value is almost all projection…was not asked to run a diverse passing tree during his time at Ole Miss—will need development and nuance to his game…not the most natural catcher of the football—will need work there as well…

COMP: Mike Evans

OVERALL: D.K. Metcalf is set to be one of the more polarizing and fascinating prospects in the 2019 NFL Draft. He has all of the physical tools you could ask for in a NFL Draft prospect, but he comes with very little on his resume. Is he more Andre Johnson/Mike Evans or is he more Equanimeous St. Brown? That’s something that scouts and GMs will have to decipher. D.K. Metcalf was originally my WR1–but there are too many concerns for me at this point. The injury history, lack of production, and lack of nuance in his route tree. He is simply an amazingly talented WR prospect, however, he is also VERY raw, and will need development. I believe that there are much more polished, similarly talented WR prospects that have pushed him down the WR rankings to WR4. Originally a locked and loaded 1st rounder, don’t be surprised if he slips out of the 1st round entirely.
