Erik McCoy Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: You have to love the high level of experience, playing in the SEC, that Erik McCoy has on his resume—predominantly at the Center position…a solid prospect who plays with excellent technique and fundamental footwork…his best film is in pass blocking…very rarely is beaten off the line of scrimmage…quick off the snap…gets his hands on the opposition before they can reach him…solid frame…plays with good leverage at the line of scrimmage…a very consistent prospect who brings it every single snap…

WEAKNESSES: One ominous detail that lingers is that Erik McCoy tends to struggle against bigger, stronger athletes—which he will face every week once he arrives in the NFL…not the road grader type of run blocker…when McCoy advances to the 2nd level—he has a tendency to lose his leverage and play too high—which allows for would be defenders to absorb the contact and get off the block…lack of ideal length and athleticism will be concerning to the scouting community…

COMP: Ryan Kalil

OVERALL: Erik McCoy is just now garnering the attention that he deserves and on some level, he still is not receiving the pub that matches his film…fundamentally sound, Erik McCoy is an experienced Center prospect and is plug and play ready…I don’t think that a 1st round selection is out of the question…ultimately I see him being an early-mid 2nd round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
