Isaiah Johnson Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: Isaiah Johnson possesses the traits at the CB position that causes the scouting community to get excited about…a great blend of high-level athleticism and length…long-speed is top-notch…allows for him to keep up with faster receivers on deep routes…a fluid athlete who plays with fluid hips…strong athlete who should be able to deal with bigger, stronger receivers…versatile defensive back who should be able to find success in man to man and zone coverages…

WEAKNESSES: Isaiah Johnson’s game needs additional refinement…tends to bite hard a times, leaving him vulnerable to double-moves…needs to be more physical at the line of scrimmage in order to get receivers off of their routes…Johnson is going to need to need NFL coaching to correct his footwork—which can get out of whack…his tackling is inconsistent…needs to work with better leverage…needs a great deal of work on his picking up the football and making a play on the ball…needs to play with a higher football IQ…

COMP: Prince Amukamara

OVERALL: Isaiah Johnson is a very talented defensive back prospect…although, he a raw prospect due to his lack of experience…you have to remember, this is a prospect who was a WR just two seasons ago and who has transitioned late to the position…expecting Isaiah Johnson to step in and start from day one would be a mistake for the prospect, and for the franchise…there is still a lot of work to be done here from playing smarter, finding the football, and working on his footwork…however, there’s a lot to like here…top-tier athlete who has hug upside…knowing where you can draft Isaiah Johnson, I love his value…I would project Johnson to be a 3rd round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
