Marquise Blair Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: There are not many safeties who possess the size to speed ratio that Marquise Blair does…Blair has the makeup of a big, physical defensive back…has outstanding length to combat bigger, stronger receivers…understands the game…plays better in zone than he does in man…has the frame to add additional weight and strength…quick, fast-twitch athleticism…

WEAKNESSES: When evaluating the film of Marquise Blair—the lack of ball skills was startling…it looks like he simply plays too passively…he plays too far off the ball or the receiver so he doesn’t get beaten deep, but he also doesn’t make any plays…is a bit too aggressive on his read and react plays and that will take him out of the play altogether…his tackling was wildly inconsistent in college…will not be an asset in run defense…

OVERALL: Marquise Blair feels like he is going to need a great deal of refinement at the next level…it feels like, at times, Blair doesn’t truly trust his natural athletic gifts…he plays way too far off the ball for a quick-twitch athlete like himself…with some high-level coaching and a dose of aggressiveness, you might just have something here. In the meantime, with so much uncertainty, I would evaluate Marquise Blair as a mid-round prospect…I’d likely place his projection to the 4th-5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
