Trayvon Mullen Scouting Report

STRENGTHS: Trayvon Mullen is the type of defensive back prospect that should excel in man to man defense…has great length to neutralize bigger, more physical wide receivers at the next level…good hands…plays with a nastiness and a chip on his shoulder…likes the physical nature of the game…good long-speed to keep up with faster receivers…good short area quickness…

WEAKNESSES: I question Trayvon Mullens’ projection when it comes to zone defense in the NFL…he doesn’t transfer from platform to platform smoothly—in a manner that you would like to see…his feet are choppy and causes him problems in said transitions…can be beaten by double moves…a bit tight in his hips and when breaking on the ball…

COMP: Jalen Mills

OVERALL: Trayvon Mullen is a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to a defensive back prospect…you have to like his tenacity and physicality…does not mind mixing it up, and in fact, excels when the game gets most physical…this fact has to be a plus for his projection to the more physical game in the NFL…that being said, there are his share of limitations…despite being physical, does not offer up much in run defense…playing in off-man or zone coverage places him at a disadvantage. Where he winds up, more so than most, will effect his overall performance at the next level…I like his chances, and think some of his limitations can be game-planned against and can be coached up. I like Trayvon Mullen as a late 2nd-early 3rd round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
