Player Comparison: A poor man’s Myler Turner
Analysis: Mfiondu Kabergele is perhaps the draft’s most underrated prospect…today, Kabengele is extremely raw offensively and has a long way to go in his development…you have to like the tools though…standing at 6’8 with a 7’3 wingspan—Mfiondu Kabengele can effect the game on the defensive end being very switchable and guarding multiple positions…shooting 37% from deep, Mfiondu Kabengele has a better shot and more offensive upside than many give him credit for…I believe his proper draft projection is right in between the 1st and 2nd round border, but I value Mfiondu Kabengele here at the 16th spot on the Big Board for the 2019 NBA Draft.
Player Comparison: Serge Ibaka
Analysis: Bruno Fernando is one of the more physically imposing prospects in the draft…has a NBA tailor-made body…Bruno Fernando can develop into a solid low post scorer at the NBA level…Fernando contributes in a number of ways on the glass and playing solid defense…his offensive game needs to advance a great deal for Bruno Fernando to realize his potential…can be a bit sloppy and has a slower mental processing…he does have a good shot from the Foul Line, so if you squint real hard, you can see Bruno Fernando develop into a 18-20’ shooter at the NBA level…again, I like this Center class substantially more than most out there—in this case, I have Bruno Fernando just outside of the lottery in terms of value, but ultimately I expect him to be drafted in the early 20s during the 2019 NBA Draft.
Player Comparison: Danny Green
Analysis: Matisse Thybulle may very be the top defender, regardless of position, in this entire draft class…watching Thybulle’s defensive highlights alone are worth the time…averaging 2.5 blocks and FOUR steals per 36—Matisse Thybulle is an absolute defensive menace…a 6’6 wing with a 7’ wingspan—Thybulle has the potential to develop into a NBA level 3&D player…that being said, he is far away offensively…his shot selection is very erratic…his offensive game is wildly inconsistent…and for a 22-year old prospect, you have to wonder if his game on the offensive end will ever catch up…I love him—I have Matisse Thybulle ranked substantially higher than virtually anyone else in the NBA draft scouting community…I expect him to go in the later portion of the 1st round, and if that is the case, count Matisse Thybulle as one of the better value picks in the entire 2019 NBA Draft.
Player Comparison: Poor man’s Eric Gordon
Analysis: Romeo Langford is one of the more fascinating prospects entering the 2019 NBA Draft…Langford brings ideal measurements to the table as a 6’6 195 shooting guard…with a 6’10 wingspan Romeo Langford is a natural scorer and is a problem to stop on the defensive end…Romeo Langford projects to be an above average shooter from deep…Langford is not a quick-twitch athlete and wins much more with his length and basketball IQ than he does with quickness and athleticism…Langford needs more development and to get stronger in order to sustain at the NBA level…Romeo Langford still has his fans in the scouting community, so expect him to be a back-end lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Player Comparison: Jamal Murray
Analysis: Many in the NBA Scouting Community have a wide divide between Darius Garland and Coby White—and I don’t see it that way…I see both prospects as flawed, score first mentality players who I question their ability and their willingness to run an offense…Coby White is a versatile offensive weapon who can score from anywhere on the court…one of the fastest players with the ball in his hand in this class…a blur in the open court…Coby White feels like a bit of a ‘tweener’ even in today’s position-less modern NBA…I doubt his ability to be a facilitator on offense, and I don’t believe he is anywhere near big enough to hold up off ball…from all accounts the NBA and league executives like him more than I do, so Coby White feels like a lock to go in a similar range as Darius Garland, somewhere from picks 4-7 in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Player Comparison: Pascal Siakam
Analysis: Sekou Doumbouya is one of the younger prospects in the entire 2019 NBA Draft…Doumbouya needs a ton of refinement as he is a very raw prospect at this point in his development, however, he has one of the higher upsides…Sekou Doumbouya is very twitchy and can guard multiple positions on the floor…Doumbouya is a superb athlete who can immediately excel in the transition game…being a raw prospect—his mental processing is not there at this point…Sekou Doumbouya is two years away from contributing at the NBA level in a meaningful way, but his long-term outlook remains very high, and in this draft his upside is enough to allow him to slip into the lottery of the 2019 NBA Draft.
